Quick Trip

I've been wanting to move and I came to the conclusion Raleigh, North Carolina seemed like the place. People ask why? Well, it seems nice, I like the trees, the weather is more moderate- winter and summer, the beach is close, mountains are close, it offers a lot of stores/concerts/art/etc but isn't a big city, and due to the graduate programs at the universities there are quite a few single people my age in the area.

Sounds great right? So I got on linkedin and began the application process. I had three different recruiters helping me. I filled out numerous applications. Nothing in Raleigh came about, so I took the interview in Memphis but didn't feel right about it. All three recruiters told me there was NOTHING available and after three months of searching, I finally applied for a transfer within my company to the Raleigh office.

I was told it couldn't happen until after the April 17th deadline AND it was still up to the partner out there. So I made a VERY quick trip to Raleigh. I left Thursday afternoon around 4pm. Before I left, I had read this blog idea about packing a meal. Yeah I usually brought some crackers or something, but it specifically said putting it in some tupperware. Well I had this tupperware and it was PERFECT! I wish I had done this on ALL my flights. I made a sandwich, took crackers, cubed 3 different types of cheese, and packed a few dill pickles. I'm loving cheese and pickles these days. This lid fit the compartments, so no juice or flavor contamination. And it was so refreshing and delicious on the flight and MUCH cheaper than buying something on the plane.

I had a layover in Charlotte, the original itinerary said we would stop but be on the same plane to Raleigh, then in the air they told us were were switching planes and the gate we needed to go to. I walked all the way to the other side of the airport and didn't see anything up on the board. But since no announcements had been made, I went to sit down and walked by an airline person, she asked if I was on the flight to Raleigh and I said yes. Guess what they switched the terminal AGAIN! I told them they needed to make an announcement because it wasn't up ANYWHERE for us too see. Then I headed to the terminal right next to the one I just came from. On the way though, I did enjoy the walk. They have a volunteer pianist and it was really calming to listen to as I roamed all over the airport. Also they have all these trees and wooden/porch rocking chairs to rest/wait in. Definitely one of my favorite airports.

I got to the right gate and found out I still had 45 minutes till boarding. I had passed by this yogurt place right before my gate and I had heard about it before, so I decided it would be fun to try.

You order one of three sized of frozen yogurt and for an additional fee any and all toppings you want until the cup is filled. I did like that idea, instead of charging you per ounce like at other yogurt places I've been to. I just got the small with a raspberry, mango twist, no toppings. It was delicious - sweet, tangy, cool and refreshing. It was a nice little treat but still more than I'd like to pay for frozen yogurt.

I finally got to Raleigh a little after midnight. I woke up early Friday and headed to the office. They have a smaller tax practice then in Phoenix, but they have a huge variety of clients and entity types. I would definitely get some good experience there. The interviews went really well. I met with the partner and 4 directors. Then two associates took me to lunch and everyone I talked with was so friendly and personable. I definitely felt the southern hospitality. Then I got back on the plane around 2pm and headed back to Phoenix. I was home by 8pm. I was EXHAUSTED and still don't know if they'll allow the transfer or not :(
