Have I mentioned...I LOVE to read

I have read another book. This came from a friend who had just finished it and in discussing books with him, I figured I could trust his recommendation.

In case you can't fully tell, the title is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.
I enjoyed a lot of the book. I enjoyed the writing style, a chapter of a letter from a grandparent and then a chapter of narration from the 9yr old main character. You also have to keep reading to understand what has happened, what is going on. Oskar the boy, is very intelligent, according to my friend, "a 9yr old super genius." But I think that was a bit what the author was going for. The plot in one sentence, the boy lost his father in the 9-11 attack and is searching for the lock that is opened by a key he found in his dad's room. It is interesting the growth you see happen in the Oskar and how death and other tragedies affect a family. I also like the child's perspective because he knows a lot but doesn't fully understand or know everything, so his perspective is a bit skewed, very much like a child. I really did enjoy the book, its just over 300 pages but a pretty quick read. There are pages with just a couple words or pictures (you'll understand if you read the book.) It in no way is for children though, there are parts that are a bit too "adult" for young ones. That is my one complaint with the book, sex is talked about occasionally, and while it shows the dsyfunctionalness of the grandparent's relationship, the details I felt were unnecessary. Overall I would give this book a 4 (out of 5). Let me know if you have some more ideas for a good read!
