I went home this past weekend, just for one night. I worked Saturday morning, then around 1pm I made the three hour drive to Yuma. I walked in the door and got to work! My mom had already been working most the day on my quilt, wanting to have it ready for me to tie that night. I had decided to add more jean squares to widen it. So I outlined squares in pants, dad cut, and mom sewed the additional squares on. Then my mom borrowed a frame for tying the quilt and the lady offered her services. So we lined up the top, batting, and the flannel bottom.
We got it set up on the quilt frame and then went to work. In addition, to my mom and her friend, my sister Becca, brother Nathaniel and his wife Tennille all came over and helped to tie the quilt. The lady was moving really fast and I'm a bit particular, so I had a bit of anxiety during the whole thing and forgot to get pictures of us all tying the quilt. I'm pretty bummed about that and that it wasn't as fun and relaxed a get together as I had hoped.
It was productive though. After most of the tying was done, everyone packed up and left. Mom and I laid out the quilt and did the last few ties and I cut the yarn to the length I liked. Despite the slight stress, it was looking good!
When I go home next, we'll finish the edge and then it will be all DONE!!! The t-shirts are all places I've been to, worked, lived, went to school, etc. I really love memory things and I was really excited to make this quilt. I've never done this before and I like to have someone walk me through new things step-by-step, so I can then do it on my own the next time. But living in another town and not having much time, I wasn't able to do it that way. It was my idea and it will be my quilt to keep, but I feel like I hardly did anything more than come up with the idea and the pattern. My mom was the one that made this dream a reality, and that's why she's the bestest!
