On the Road Again...

I got back from my Thanksgiving trip very late Sunday, November 27 and a recruiter I had been talking to called Wednesday saying he had this great job opportunity for me with Hilton, yes Hilton hotels. Can you say traveling perks? Of course I was interested and we arranged a job interview for that Monday, December 5.
So one week later at 2pm on Sunday, I was back in the airport. I've never had such terrible flights!
We loaded on the plane and then sat there for two hours! Why? We were overweight! I'd never heard this before but I also had never seen so many overweight people on a flight and I mean HUGELY overweight. I happened to be stuck next to one. They asked for volunteers to take a different flight and only skinny people offered. We finally got into the air and the guy next to me was over my armrest the entire time and listening to his music on headphones so loud I could hear EVERY word. I arrived with a headache and hungry. My ride was great though, the biggest, darkest black guy I have ever seen. No I'm not being prejudice.  He was holding this sign with my name on it and I felt like a toddler next to him. He helped me into this shiny black town car and I felt like some popstar with her body guard, it was awesome. He also had this really great low, raspy voice and I had to lean forward to hear him, but he was great to talk to. I had pretty much forgotten the flight by the time I got to the hotel. I also asked him for the best Memphis barbecue place, he told me about Corky's and that it was just a mile or so down the road from my hotel.
I had heard about hush puppies before and since I was in the south, I decided to try some. Mainly its just fried cornbread, they were delicious!
Then my meal came, I ordered the pulled-pork and half a rack of memphis dry rub ribs. It came with coleslaw, baked beans, and rolls.
Look how big those ribs are! It was YUMMY! The meat was tender and moist. The rib meat fell off the bone and the flavor a smoked tangy taste, mmmm. The pulled pork, was a bit sweeter but just as delicious. The coleslaw, beans and rolls were the perfect compliment. I stuffed myself to the point I was sick and hurting but it was worth it.
Here's a painting of the outside. Corky's has won a ton of awards and holds the title for best Memphis BBQ.  I haven't tried anything else, but I can't imagine anything better.
Monday morning, I had my interview at Hilton headquarters and it went very well, then I headed back to the airport. This time it wasn't a straight shot, I had a connection in Dallas, TX. The first flight I sat by another over weight man and wondered if this was going to be my fate on every flight from here on out. Thankfully it was a short flight and no delays. I got to Dallas and had some time, so I grabbed McDonalds for dinner. This picture doesn't do it justice, but I got a happy meal and this fry was TEENY! I hadn't had McDonalds in a long time and I didn't know they had changed the small fries to this tiny box. I have this obsession with minute things and it was so cute.
So then I went over to the gate right before they were supposed to board the plane and guess what? MORE delays. They kept saying, "just a few more minutes", then half hour later, "just a few more minutes" for almost THREE hours they delayed boarding the plane. Thankfully because of the delays, other passengers went else where and it wasn't full. I also didn't have to seat by an overweight man, thank goodness!
As for the job, they did give me the offer and it was honestly a dream job. Mostly 8-5 hours, no state taxes, only international and corporate taxes and a BIG raise. I just didn't feel right about Memphis, great bbq, but I just didn't feel right about moving there. So I turned the job down. It was a difficult decision but once I made it I was relieved. Hopefully a better option comes along.
