Here is what I've been up to lately.
A couple months ago, I came back from a trip and found that my disposal wasn't working. It was was stuck - HARD. According to my dad, the toughest to release he's come across. So when he got it working, he told me I needed to run it everyday, which I did mostly until I was gone a LOT. I came back from Vegas to find that once again it was stuck. So I gave my dad a call and got some tips and armed myself.
See the culprit skulking in the back. We faced off, my weapons bared. We went a few rounds, he won most of the battles and I thought he was going to be the victor, when BAM - I won the war! I now consider myself quite the handy-woman. I fixed my own disposal. I can do anything! ;)

Then on Monday, the 19th, we had our work group Christmas party. Our entire office is doing a holiday thing in January but the real estate tax group likes to do a little something together. We had what most know as a White Elephant exchange and what the guy arranging it calls a Dirty Santa exhange. Hahaha! I think that's a great name. Along with the gift exchange we also had a dessert competition. I signed up to make something and was worried we may not have very many entries, so despite being home the weekend before and getting in very late Sunday night. I woke up early Monday morning and went to the store and picked up some things to make my own variation of Mud Pie.
Isn't this the prettiest thing you've ever seen? The process was not so pretty, I had melting ice-cream, smashed oreos, melted caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, and whip cream EVERYWHERE! I did a layer of crushed oreos, then caramel sauce, and then ice-cream mixed with whip cream and more crushed oreos. I did those same three layers again, then on the top I did a thick fudge layer not fully covering the top and then whip cream globs on top of that and then 3 cherries in the center. If I had prepared this the day before I would have frozen between layers so there was less mixing of them and then on top the whip cream globs would have been more fluffy and not melted over the chocolate. I think it would have just looked a touch prettier. But I was pretty happy with how it turned out since, I totally just winged it as I went. It was so heavy to carry and try and balance with one hand while I drove to work. But totally worth the effort when I took 2nd place and won $50! I know its only 2nd place but there were 10 entries and it made me feel very culinary. Merry Christmas to me!

Wednesday night, December 21st, I left work with a laundry list of things to do and the enthusiasm (which is usually lacking) to get them done. My first stop was Wal-mart to get some photos printed for a Christmas present. I put my phone down on the counter as I paid for my pictures. I then headed to the gas station, after filling up I checked for my phone, I was waiting on a call from my brother Jonathan. It wasn't in my purse, so I looked around on the seat, I looked in the Wal-mart bag, NOWHERE. I triple checked everything. I retraced my steps in my head and realized I hadn't picked it up from the counter!!!! I RACED back to the store and literally SPRINTED to the back, I had been gone less than 15 minutes. The phone was GONE. It had been in front of a little photo display, the workers hadn't seen it and the camera was focused only on the register, it was less than a foot out of the camera shot!!! There had been four customers behind me in line and they were all probably in the store still but Wal-mart would not use their receipts from the photo purchases to call them back. I was SICK! I had pictures and texts and voice messages I had saved, I loved my pink phone, I had almost a year left on my contract, I didn't have a lot of extra money currently to get a new one - all these thoughts racing through my head chewing me up. I was FRUSTRATED and RAGING inside at the Wal-mart security guy. Seriously, just call back those customers and search them, I was positive it would still be in the store. What the security guard did do - tell me that phones are stolen all the time from Wal-mart, cops rarely show up to the call (I had called them from the store's phone), that its gone and the best thing to do is to get my carrier to cancel the line as soon as possible. I wanted to punch him in the face, I wanted to SCREAM, I felt crazy inside. The guard went back to his office but told me if I stopped waiting to tell him so he could cancel the cop call. I waited 45 minutes and then went to the guard desk to tell him I was leaving. The cop showed up right then. He called my number and somebody picked up and he heard a lot of noise but nobody responded to him. He said it sounded like my phone was still in Wal-mart. He called three times, all three times the same thing. He couldn't do anything other than write a report and he needed the serial number of my phone, of course I don't have that, IT'S ON THE PHONE! He asked if I had a tracking app, nope, so he said the only other thing was if Sprint would track it. But he wouldn't go to Sprint with me. I again RACED to Sprint, they did NOTHING for me. It costs $5 a month to have a family tracking thing and it would take a couple days for it to go into effect and Sprint couldn't track it without a cop's request. By this time it had been two hours, I was tired, INFURIATED at cops, Wal-mart, and Sprint, and phoneless. I turned off the line, reported the phone stolen to sprint, so if anyone ever tries activating it with Sprint I will be notified, and then I went home. I was still so anxious and upset and no longer productive. I did very little the rest of the night. The next day I borrowed a co-worker's phone so I could connect with my brother Jonathan who I was picking up from the airport. Then we went home to Yuma. I felt less panicky/frustrated and more focused by this time. I went to Sprint first thing this morning to see how much it would cost to cancel my plan - $200 plus the month that just started on the 17th, then of course the purchase price of a new phone and that monthly fee. After looking at all the costs, my cheapest option was to use the Christmas phone special Sprint had. I got an Android Samsung Galaxy S 4G with a slide out keyboard for $100. About 40 hours after the incident, I had a phone again, weird but I suddenly felt so much more calm. Trust me I learned my lesson, my phone will NEVER be left ANYWHERE out of my sight again.
So there's the good, the bad and the pretty of December.
