Big Stars, Big Shows

Saturday morning I got up around 7am and got ready. I then gathered all my things and moved them downstairs to the room I had been in the first night. I also met Jacqueline and around 9am we headed out. Our first stop was the Museum of Modern Art, aka the MoMA.
I already said, I'm not super into art, well I'm even less into modern art. It started out tame, the sculpture garden wasn't too weird. This one is actually kind of cute.
Then there was a floor on inventions, this purple things simulates a womb, WEIRD!
There was a lot of weird, weird stuff. But this room was FANTASTIC. All blank white walls and tinsel rectangles? Why fantastic, you ask. One of the guards told us we could take one, in my head it went like this, "take one? what are we taking? tinsel?"
Then we got closer and lo and behold, CANDY! See that smile, and by the way I took a few more than one. They were lemon hard candies and they were quite yummy. Eating the art, made this a lot more fun.
They also had a floor of furniture and home decor. Like modern art, I'm usually not a fan of modern furniture but I actually really loved this dresser.
As we went up the art got a bit more traditional, Blue Sky by Van Gogh.
After a couple hours, we left the MoMA and took the subway to Times Square.
I've never been to a Madame Toussands and I never really wanted to go but then I read an article about the artists that work all night re-fixing all the wax sculptures after everyone's been all over them. It was so fascinating the things they do to re-create the person, so then I wanted to go.
Some of them looked sooo real.
Julia, you're one of my favorite actresses.
Oh, Captain, My Captain. Honestly, this one was one of the most life-like ones. I kept getting closer and closer to his face thinking, "I wouldn't be surprised at all if he started talking and was really Robin Williams."
Okay I can't remember who this guy is, some french dude, but this was his ACTUAL size! CRAZY!
This is Jacqueline posing with Madame Toussand herself, she was also a pretty short woman.
Hmm, interesting, Woody.
This was the floor dedicated to New York people and places, it was fun.
Look at me in the Statue of Liberty. At least I got to go in this one, the real one is closed for repairs right now.
So I joined the Rockettes for the night, I was pretty amazing ;)
So John, what did you think of the re-make of True Grit?
Don't I look like a total groupie?
We then left the museum, I had a show to catch and Jacqueline was headed north to the museums I had seen Friday. Here I am in the belly of the city at Grand Central waiting for our connecting train.
I was off to see STOMP at the Orpheum Theatre. At this show I was THREE rows back, dead center. It was awesome! Such a fun show, so talented. It amazes me how people come up with beats and rhythms from the most random items.
By the time it was over, it was 4pm and all I had eaten eaten again was a granola bar. So I asked the usher if there was an authentic NY pizza place nearby. He said yes and it was only a block away from the theatre.
The slice was $1.50 and it was even better than it looked. It was so delicious and it wasn't just because I was hungry, it was just great pizza. And in case you're wondering, yes I folded it in half to eat it, just like a new yorker.
I had to go back to the hostel really quick to check-in (I had to wait until after 3pm). So I made a metro trip back to the upper east side and did that. Then I headed back to Times Square to wander for a little bit before my final show. The Christmas lights all over were so enchanting.
I bought a really cute pashmina from a street vendor, got it half off because it was the last one of that color and hanging on his little cart, not in a plastic bag, score! Then I headed here!
The famous Gershwin Theatre, I was the farthest back in this show compared to my other ones and I wished I had been closer, but by the time I had purchased tickets this was the closest they had.
I absolutely love the story and music of Wicked, I think it teaches good life lessons and is the practical/realistic version of a fairy tale. Despite the little girl next to me that kept swinging her foot and kicking me and didn't stop until I asked her too and the little boy and his mom that got up only 45 minutes in and climbed over this whole row of people including me to go to the bathroom and come back when there were fewer people to their left or they easily could have gone over the back of their seats and been in an aisle and bothered nobody, it was a fantastic show. I was going to find a great place for a late dinner after the show but I was just too tired, so I went back to the hostel and got things ready to leave on Sunday.
