Playing With Guns

For the last couple years, since I practically live alone and being a woman, I've thought about getting a handgun to carry.  And as of last year, Arizona no longer requires a concealed weapons permit.  So today I borrowed my dad's Ruger LCP and with a coworker/retired military went to the gun range.  I was a bit nervous at first, I hate the loud noise and the recoil of guns.  But because of the smallness of this gun and super great earplugs, it wasn't bad at all.  The guy gave us two targets free, Osama and the zombie.
I was quite impressed by my aim and so was my coworker.  At one point though, I suddenly found a smear of blood on my arm. After a minute of panic, I remembered feeling something hit my forehead, not hard, didn't sting at all but it did some damage. The casing from a round instead of going to the right and back, came straight back into my forehead.  Being hot and moving so quickly it gave me quite the clean half moon slice on my forehead. This is quite unusual for the casing to do, but it being Friday the 13th something was bound to go wrong.
Despite the damage, this experience only reinforced my desire to have a gun. Not that I'm looking for trouble but just in case, I'd like to be prepared.
